Sievers, best known for his modernist architectural and industrial photography, died in 2007, a month before his 94th birthday. In an obituary, photographer John Gollings described him as “a great Australian photographer, certainly the equal of Max Dupain, but with a ‘Melbourne’ sensibility.”

The Magnet Galleries, which operates two spaces in the CBD and in the Docklands, aims to “celebrate the best of Australian photography and encourage excellence among established and emerging photographers.”

The signed prints come from the private collection of Julian Burnside QC, a barrister, human rights and refugee advocate. The event doubles as the launch for Magnet@Docklands.

The auction will take place on 12 September at Magnet@Docklands, Level 1, Wharf Street, Docklands.
