I Love Todd Sampson – Voices of the Vulnerable

The I Love Todd Sampson project is a multidisciplinary work of theatre that integrates architecture, installation art, light, music, film and performance. Presented by The Living Room Theatre, it presents the story of a woman having reached middle age with the dissociative effects of an abusive past causing her to attach to objects rather than people. She slides towards suicide until one day Todd Sampson (television’s advertising guru) comes into her life, and she fixates on him. Sampson himself is not involved in this project, though he has agreed to be filmed for one scene in the play.

The format of this production is progressive theatre. The audience follows the story room to room – as created by collaborating architects – within the hauntingly beautiful and disquieting Pier 2/3 of Sydney’s historic wharf precinct. Mac-Interactive is the chief architectural organiser, with participating firms including Carter Williamson Architects, CKW, Sam Crawford Architects, Ensemble, Flatpac, Genevieve Lilley Architects and WLTS.

A backstage tour opened by Penelope Seidler will be held on 20 February. Tickets are available from the Australian Institute of Architects.
