Object presents a panel discussion and workshop on how to make realistic but inspired demands of our cities.

The moderated panel discussion, led by Siobhan Toohill (group head of sustainability and community at Westpac), will hear insights from leading practitioners in architecture, public art, urban design and sustainability. The discussion will interrogate key questions:

• How do we make our cities work better for us?
• How can we make clearer demands for better-designed spaces with cultural value?
• What strategies can we put in pace for more sustainable outcomes?

Panellist include:

• Shelley Penn, former president of Australian Institute of Architects; and member of Victorian Design Review Panel and the South Australian City Design Review Panel.
• Clare Sowden, associate director at Price Waterhouse Coopers; board member of the Urban Land Institute.
• Fiona Foley, artist and founding member of Booomalli Aboriginal Artist Operative
• Barbara Schaffer, principal landscape architect in NSW Government Architects Office.

The panel discussion will be followed by a practical workshop where participants will be asked to consider the rapidly changing nature of the architecture, urbanism and the built environment, and investigate the challenges facing both public and private sectors.
