Tanner Architects is an established architectural practice based Hobart, Nipaluna, Lutruwita, Tasmania with a committment to design ethos, sustainability and detailed procurement. Registered in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, the practice is approaching its 25th year.

Project context – either urban, rural landscape or coastal margin – greatly informs our processes, and we strive to reflect this relationship within our architecture. We take an exploratory approach to the spatial arrangement & materials of our buildings and we encourage our clients to engage with us on this journey.

Sustainability is an integral facet of any design we undertake. We view sustainability as a product of responsibility in practice. The impact of a particular project is considered as a combination of factors, such as scale, relationship to site and broader context, material selection with regard to carbon consumption, durability and passive heating and cooling ability. Containment of built scale is one of the primary drivers that underpins our approach to sustainability.

Client communication is a criterion of the design process that we take seriously. We employ multi-layered methods of communicating design and have considerable experience with the planning processes necessary to achieve successful outcomes at a planning application level. We aim to ensure our client is aware and comfortable at each step of a project’s navigation, from pre-design through to administration of the building contract.‍

Tanner Architects view contemporary architecture as a pivotal ingredient to a rich environmental culture and a vitally important aspect of a future sustainable society.

Our project spectrum includes residential architecture, commercial, tourism projects and public infrastructure.

Tanner Architects respectfully acknowledges we work within the Cultural lands of the palawa and pakana. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and we offer our personal reverence to their Culture.‍
