DADo design and architecture documentaries launches its second session, with four short films produced by prominent investigating the role of architecture in Australian identity to screen at the Robin Boyd Foundation Walsh Street Courtyard on Wednesday 15 May 2013.
Melbhattan, introduced by Oslo Davis (cartoonist and illustrator), is part homage, part pastiche of the opening sequence of Woody Allen’s seminal 1979 film Manhattan. Drawn and animated by Oslo Davis.
Straight and True, introduced by Naomi Bishops and Richard Raber (Traces Films), questions how Australians all strive for the utopian dream of owning their own home. What if this dream had embraced the notion of an Australian “way of living” unique to our identity and landscape?
Hawkes House, introduced by Naomi Bishops and Richard Raber (Traces Films), is a visual exploration of the ‘Hawkes House’ designed in the late 1960’s by the architecture firm McGlashan Everist.
Your House and Mine, introduced by Peter McIntyre (director of McIntyre Partnership), documents styles of housing, with each sequence featuring a different aspect of Melbourne.
All directors will present their respective films prior to each screening and stay on for a Q+A session afterwards moderated by Dr. David Nichols, senior lecturer in Urban Planning at the University of Melbourne and author of “The Bogan Delusion”.
