Shortlist revealed: 2019 Australian Interior Design Awards

The shortlist for the 16th annual Australian Interior Design Awards has been announced. From a pool of 551 entries, 214 projects have been shortlisted across the seven primary categories.

The Australian Interior Design Awards, a partnership event of the Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media’s Artichoke magazine, recognize and celebrate interior design excellence in the categories of Retail Design, Hospitality Design, Workplace Design, Public Design, Installation Design, Residential Design and Residential Decoration.

Winners of these categories will be announced at a gala dinner on Friday 31 May 2019 at the Forum in Melbourne, along with recipients of other awards including the Sustainability Advancement Award, Award for Interior Design Impact, Best of State Awards for Commercial Design and Residential Design, the Emerging Interior Design Practice Award, Best International Design and the ultimate prize, the Premier Award for Australian Interior Design.

The 2019 jury for the Awards for Australian Interior Design comprises: Angela Biddle (Scott Carver, New South Wales); Caroline Choker (ACME, New South Wales); Anthony Dickens (Hassell, Victoria); Peta Heffernan (Liminal Studio, Tasmania); Ingrid Richards (Richards and Spence Architects, Queensland); Sonia Simpfendorfer (Nexus Designs, Victoria); Koichi Takada (Koichi Takada Architects, New South Wales); and Kieran Wong (The Fulcrum Agency, Western Australia).

The jury is convened by Geraldine Maher, principal of Geraldine Maher Design, and Equilibrium Consultant’s John Gertsakis advises the jury on sustainability issues.
